《 Echoes of Light 》KiKi Lin Solo Exhibition

In Echoes of Light, KiKi Lin explores the intersection of material, memory, and perception through the medium of nihonga. Using the recurring motif of strawberries, her works reflect the subtle accumulation of time and emotion embedded in everyday life.

KiKi Lin’s practice is rooted in the traditional medium and techniques of nihonga, which she extends into a contemporary visual language.

In her 2026 solo exhibition Echoes of Light, Lin continues her exploration of personal emotional experience through the recurring motif of the strawberry. “Echoes” refers to the fruit itself, while “light” points to the material qualities of mineral pigments—how they respond to and interact with light, forming a subtle, tactile language in the act of viewing.

Using mineral pigments that echo the hues of strawberries, Lin builds her surfaces through repeated layering and accumulation.
These processes mirror the gradual sedimentation of time within everyday relationships, where emotions are quietly embedded rather than explicitly expressed.

The resulting forms appear calm and tangible, yet their boundaries remain soft and permeable—gently dissolving into the surrounding space, allowing air, light, and memory to coexist within the image.

In this context, the fruit is no longer merely representational.
It becomes a vessel for memory and perception. What appears as a familiar subject instead evokes subtle resonances—echoes of lived experience.

When encountering the works in Echoes of Light, viewers do not simply see strawberries.
Rather, they enter a perceptual field shaped by anthropomorphic forms and the reflective qualities of the medium itself. Light is extended, refracted, and held within the surface, transforming viewing into a temporal experience.

How does light linger?
How does time settle within moments and events?
How do fragments of daily life, along with intangible emotions—joy, intimacy, love—gradually take form?

Echoes of Light unfolds within these questions, proposing a space of perception between the visible and the intangible.

▍ Between Fruit and Light, Where Time Settles

This exhibition invites viewers into a perceptual space shaped by fruit, light, and memory.
Through layered mineral pigments and subtle luminosity, it reveals emotional traces that resist language yet remain deeply present.
As viewing becomes a slower, more attentive experience, one may begin to sense the quiet presence of time, relationships, and the textures of everyday life within these works.
