At first glance, you may be drawn to the vibrant colors, charming animals, and cheerful smiles.
Yet behind every smiling face lies artist thoughtful exploration of human emotion. Through playful figures of cats, dogs, rabbits, dinosaurs, and other animals, she reflects the emotional layers that exist between our true selves and the personas we present to the world. Her works invite us to reconsider the emotions hidden beneath a smile—and the unconscious judgments we often make based on first impressions.
Have you ever assumed someone's personality simply from the expression on their face?
Or have you ever smiled and said, “I'm fine,” when you didn't truly feel that way?

Each of us carries both the emotions we choose to reveal and those we quietly keep within.
As we move through different relationships and social situations, we constantly adjust our expressions, tone, and emotions. Through these subtle choices, we gradually construct what we call our identity.

Some may see this as pretending.
Meg, however, believes it reflects something far more beautiful—the resilience that allows us to live within society, and the kindness we show through empathy, consideration, and care for others.
She refers to these emotional dimensions as Layers, making them the central concept of her artistic practice.

Rather than depicting people directly, Meg chooses animals—cats, dogs, rabbits, dinosaurs, and other familiar companions—as the protagonists of her works. Unlike humans, animals express themselves honestly and instinctively. By placing symbolic smiling faces upon them, she creates an image that feels both delightful and subtly unsettling.
These smiles are more than playful symbols; they become mirrors, reflecting the contrast between the emotions we openly display and those we quietly keep hidden beneath the surface.

Meg also incorporates a variety of materials—including wood panels, modeling paste, acrylic paint, clay, paper clay, gel medium, and resin—to build rich textures and layered surfaces. These physical layers echo the emotional Layers explored throughout her work, transforming feelings into something tangible.
Beneath the colorful and lighthearted imagery, the works are not simply about happiness. They speak instead of the quiet strength required to navigate everyday life.

Through her art, hopes to celebrate the beauty found in human resilience and compassion, while encouraging viewers to look beyond appearances and question the unconscious biases that often arise from first impressions.
