《 A Place Between Memories 》Mango Solo Exhibition
This exhibition explores the relationship between place, memory, and painting. Drawing from everyday life, travel, and personal experiences, the artist transforms familiar scenes into spaces between reality and memory through fragmented compositions and multiple viewpoints.
Layering different moments and experiences, the works reflect the fluid nature of memory, while wandering cats guide the viewer through these imagined spaces.
Seeing a Place Again, Between Memory and Reality
We never remember a place simply as it was.
Light, sound, scent, and fragments of experience accumulate over time, forming memories that belong uniquely to us. The artist deconstructs and layers these fragments through multiple perspectives and open compositions, creating spaces that exist between reality and remembrance.
Many of the works begin on hanji, traditional Korean paper, where pigments seep into the surface and are layered with powder, oil paint, oil pastels, colored pencils, and other media. These material traces echo the way time and memory accumulate, overlap, and settle.
Cats moving through these spaces act as both projections of the artist and guides for the viewer. In recent works, vivid red cats symbolize energy and willpower, becoming striking points of presence within the layered compositions.
These paintings do not simply depict a place. They ask:
How do we remember a place? And how do we leave traces of ourselves within the spaces we call our own?
