Jungwoo Hong’s practice centers on the visualization of memory and emotion through instinctive, unplanned line-making. Beginning with spontaneous, doodle-like gestures, his works transform simple lines into a visual language that conveys unspoken feelings and fragments of lived experience.

His compositions often feature figures, animals, natural elements, symbols, and text, which function as carriers of memory. While rooted in personal experience, these images remain open-ended, inviting viewers to engage intuitively and project their own interpretations. Through repetition, layering, and accumulation, Hong constructs dense emotional landscapes that reflect the passage of time and the complexity of memory.

In his recent <The Memory Garden> series, the artist further explores memory as a dynamic and evolving process. Lines and forms gradually build into layered structures, embodying the reconstruction of memories and the depth of emotional experience. His works suggest that memory is not merely a recollection of the past, but an active force that shapes present perception and future meaning.

Drawing on philosophical notions of time and memory, Hong’s practice reflects on the continuity between past and present, as well as the inner landscapes of reverie and self-reflection. His works ultimately create spaces where personal and collective memories intersect, offering viewers an opportunity to rediscover their own emotional traces within the artist’s visual world.
